The treble crochet (tr), also called triple crochet, is the tallest of the standard basic stitches. It creates a taller, more open stitch than double crochet, which means your project grows quickly and the fabric has more drape and airiness.
How to Work a Treble Crochet
- Yarn over twice before inserting your hook into the stitch.
- Insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. You'll have 4 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops.
- Yarn over and pull through the next 2 loops.
- Yarn over one last time and pull through the final 2 loops.
Repeat across the row. Remember your turning chain for treble crochet is usually 4 chains.
When to Use Treble Crochet
Treble crochet is perfect for lacy shawls, summer tops, and openwork blankets where you want quick coverage with a light, breezy feel.
