Glossary

Gauge

The number of stitches and rows in a 4 inch / 10 cm square. It determines finished size.

Swatch

A small sample you crochet before starting a project to check gauge and drape.

Frogging

Ripping out stitches because you made a mistake. Rip-it, rip-it.

Yarn over

Wrapping the working yarn over the hook.

Tension

How tightly or loosely you hold the yarn while crocheting.

Blocking

Wetting or steaming a finished piece and pinning it into shape.
