Common Causes of Wobbly Heads

Inconsistent Tension

If your stitches vary in tightness, some areas will be looser than others, causing the head to lean. Amigurumi requires tight, even tension throughout to maintain shape.

Improper Stuffing

Over-stuffing stretches the fabric unevenly, while under-stuffing leaves the head floppy. Stuff firmly but not so tight that stitches pull apart. Add stuffing gradually in small amounts.

Uneven Decreases

When shaping the head, skipped or extra stitches create lopsided rounds. Count your stitches at the end of each round to catch mistakes early.

Weak Neck Attachment

If the head isn't securely attached to the body, it will wobble. Use strong thread and sew through multiple stitches in both pieces, going around at least twice.

Quick Fixes

• Redistribute stuffing by gently massaging the head
• Add small amounts of stuffing to hollow areas
• Block the finished piece by pinning it in shape and lightly steaming
• For severe cases, carefully open a seam, adjust stuffing, and re-sew

Prevention

Use a smaller hook than recommended for your yarn weight. This creates tighter fabric that holds its shape better and prevents stuffing from showing through.
