How to Sew Amigurumi Pieces Together Neatly

Assembly is often the trickiest part of amigurumi, but a few habits make a big difference.

Pin before you sew. Use straight pins or stitch markers to hold arms, legs, and ears in place. Step back and check symmetry from multiple angles before committing to a single stitch.

Use a whip stitch or mattress stitch. A whip stitch through the outer loops of matching stitches is quick and works well for most joins. For a nearly invisible seam, try a mattress stitch, weaving your needle through corresponding stitches on each piece without pulling thread through to the front.

Match yarn to yarn. Sew with the same yarn used in the project, split into thinner strands if it's bulky. This keeps seams blending into the surrounding stitches rather than standing out.

Stuff as you go. Add stuffing to a limb before closing it completely, and adjust firmness before your final stitches, since it's much harder to fix afterward.

Weave in with intention. Run yarn tails through several stitches, change direction once, then trim close to the fabric.

Slow, deliberate assembly turns a pile of parts into a polished, huggable amigurumi you'll be proud to show off.
