How to Design Your Own Amigurumi Character

Creating your own amigurumi character is a rewarding way to express your creativity. Start by sketching your idea on paper—it doesn't need to be perfect, just a rough guide showing the basic shapes and proportions.

Break your character down into simple geometric shapes. Most amigurumi use spheres for heads, ovals for bodies, cylinders for arms and legs, and cones or triangles for ears or horns. Once you identify these shapes, you can use standard amigurumi patterns as building blocks.

Choose your yarn weight and hook size. DK or worsted weight yarn with a 3.5mm or 4mm hook works well for beginners. Remember to crochet tightly so the stuffing doesn't show through.
