Blocking Mats, Stitch Markers, and Other Tools You Actually Need
Not every crochet gadget is worth buying, but a few simple tools make a real difference. Here's what's actually worth having in your kit.
Crochet doesn't need much, but a handful of small tools make projects easier and more accurate. Here are the ones worth having.
Stitch markers: These little clips or rings mark the beginning of a round, track increases, or hold your place when you set a project down. Locking markers are the most versatile since they won't fall out.
Blocking mats: Interlocking foam mats let you pin finished pieces into shape while they dry, which is especially helpful for garments, granny squares, and lace. They keep edges straight and even out uneven tension.
Yarn needles: A blunt, large-eye needle for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together. Metal ones last longer than plastic.
Measuring tape: Essential for checking gauge and garment sizing as you go, rather than discovering a fit problem at the end.
Stitch counters: Handy for tracking rows in repetitive patterns, especially colourwork or lace where losing count is costly.
