Acrylic vs. Cotton vs. Wool: Choosing Yarn for Your Project

Acrylic

Affordable, durable, and easy to find at any craft store. Acrylic yarn is machine washable, comes in tons of colours, and works well for blankets, amigurumi, and practice swatches. It doesn't breathe as much as natural fibers, so it can feel warm for garments in humid weather.

Cotton

Cotton has great stitch definition, which makes it perfect for dishcloths, market bags, and lacy summer tops. It has little to no stretch, so your tension needs to stay consistent. It's also heavier than acrylic, which is worth considering for bigger projects.

Wool
